  1. Students need a combination of core knowledge, reasoning & judgment, technological know-how, critical thinking, and problem solving skills. They also need practice facing real challenges that promote collaboration & communication skills, team work & mutual respect, realistic experiences of work environments, public service and appreciation of diversity. They need courage & confidenceto address new challenges by drawing creativeky on a broad range of intellectual, social, cultural, and technological resources.

  2. Students should be learning how to ask different kinds of questions. Practicing inquiry helps children become criticle thinkers. When students move beyond the form and function type questions, they begin to take on different perspectives, consider a variety of solutions, and become better problem solvers. Let's foster a sense of wonder!

  3. Yes!!! Fostering a sense of wonder should be child-centered, child-inspired and teacher involved! Let's find out what children are curious about and discover together with collaboration in mind.

  4. Students need to learn how to interact with their peers and adults alike in face to face situations. It is my belief that the more technology kids are using that does not involve human contact(text messaging, email, internet chatting) the more likely it is that they are losing the ability to interact in face to face situations. I think it is important that kids continue to get opportunities in school to interact individually and collaboratively face to face.

  5. The Edutopia.org website has some nice articles about project-base learning. This could be a helpful resource for teachers or parents who are struggling with this concept -- or just want to explore some good creative ideas to get kids excited about learning.

  6. As a mother and a future educator, I am excited to see what this new inititative will look like in practice. We need to remember that we are preparing many of our children for careers that don't even exist yet.
